Medieval Dynasty Beginner Guide: A Stable First Start

Start small: keep your character supplied, finish a basic home, and follow the current objective. Add villagers and production when you can support them. This suggested first-session plan keeps the next decision manageable.

Choose a start that matches how you want to play

The Valley is solo-only; The Oxbow supports solo or co-op. Use the map comparison before starting if multiplayer or character options matter to you.

For a first run, we recommend the default settings. The July 2024 Official Guide recommends them as an introduction. Adjust individual settings later when you know which parts of the pace you want to change.

A practical first-session route

Work through this suggested order. There is no need to tackle every settlement system in the first session.

  1. Track your current objective in the journal. In The Valley, chapters guide early progress and building capacity.
  2. Gather for one immediate task: a tool, shelter, or the active objective. Watch carry weight and tool condition.
  3. Scout a site near water, trees and a route to a settlement. This is a convenience recommendation, not a placement rule.
  4. Finish a basic home and keep your own food and water supplied.
  5. Check Technology before gathering for another building or spending coins on a scheme.
  6. Prepare a spare home, supplies and a job before recruiting your first villager.

Pause before expanding

Give each new building a purpose. Before adding another worker or production building, open Management and inspect housing, supplies, assignments and warning icons.

Our recommendation: add one person or one production chain, then check its effect before expanding again.

What a stable early game looks like

You have a workable start when you can supply your character, return to shelter, replace worn tools and complete the next small project without constant shortages.

Common questions

Should I recruit as soon as the option appears?

We recommend preparing a spare house, supplies and a useful job first. Then add one resident and check what the village needs.

Do I need every unlocked scheme?

No. The Official Guide recommends buying a scheme when you need its item and can supply the materials.
